Why are People so unkind?

9 June 2006, 14:49

By “People” I mean “Daughter”. Here I am, slogging my guts out, trying to get her to take hour long naps (45 mins are simply unasseptable) during the day, with whinging, crying, raspberrying, resisting etc. etc. et. al. ad nauseum, then Papa comes home of an evening, bathes her (which she loves), pops her down in her cot for the night and she passes out like a light with nary a bleet, not to be heard from for the next 10 hours. JeeeZUZ!

We (that is, “People” and I) ended up at Tweddle Sleep School in Foot-a-scray on Wednesday and I must say, although it was a hard day and I was skeptical that I would be able to resettle her after her 45 min snooze, I have just managed to resettle the little badger after 10 minutes. Not 2 days after School. The techniques (patting her bum while placing her on her side and dealing with a lot of crying and protesting at first) work. Rolling her onto her back once she’s settled is a whole different sleigh-of-hand. Get her at the wrong moment and she shakes herself awake and it’s back to square one. It aint easy, my friends, no sirreee.

Not that I’m expecting it to work every time (as that my dear readers would be setting myself up for abject disappointment) but I have so much more confidence with putting her to sleep (a bit young for that, I know) I don’t get anxious when I hear her start that tired grizzle. Things are looking up up UP!!!

  1. glad to hear that she’s settling!! you sounded a little bit frazzled on that last post :)

  3. I also know some who sleep the moment you put them in a car and drive around. They wake up at red traffioc lights though!

  4. My midwife told the story of a woman who drove from Melbourne to Shepparton at 2am to try and get her baby to sleep…and she only stopped at Shep due to a red light!

  5. I guess you can’t afford to drive in the car until she falls asleep. Bit cold to head out for a walk with the pram but it does work and is good for you. Good way for parents to have some quiet time together also.

Glad to hear that you’ve found something that works.

  6. I am researching australians who have japanese links, but geez this website is so uninteresting, why do people write this mundane garbage about daily life and clutter the internet when noone else is fascinated? these events are important as such to the direct people involved, but the telling of the story has nor relevance or importance to the daily life of others. Hey today I farted and had indigestion and I got on the tram. Wow, dude…Quality, well researched writing in future please, we only have so much time…these self-indulgent jottings are best left at home in a diary

  7. If you find it uninteresting – don’t read it. That simple. Goodbye.

  8. Wow, what an @rsehole that guy mishima is! Perhaps he should do some research on what blogs are, the ******. Keep writing Kinki.

  9. Hey, mishima, perhaps you could go to another planet…make sure it’s unpopulated, then you can make it just the way you want it. In the meantime, you’ll just have to put up with the diversity around you, trying to invest your time in whatever tickles your fancy, and leaving everyone else to do the same.
Your blog is great, Kinki. I have a 2.5yo daughter and you bring back lots of (not so distant!) memories for me. I felt very much like you when she was born (we don’t have much family support mainly due to distance). It’s bloody hard when in this society we don’t live in a more “communal” way, and so we have to cope on our own. It’s not PND, it’s just difficult!
(I am pg with #2 due end of Jan!)

  10. Kinki, your blog has always been great. Forget the “Hey today I farted”-mishima and please keep writing and producing photos. Most of us out here can relate to what you say and your style is refreshing!

  11. I hope all is going alright. I miss reading your blog!
Hey Mishima, the whole point of writing a blog is to keep a webdiary as such. I’m pretty sure you’re a troll and this isn’t the only blog you’ve commented on. Go and take your petty argument elsewhere.
